Dear Department of Medicine Community:
We are excited to introduce a new addition to the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension, Ryan M. Williams, Ph.D., who joined Stony Brook as Associate Professor of Medicine and the Associate Director of Translation and Commercialization.Ìý
Dr. Williams was recruited from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The City College of New York, where he directed the Immune Nanomedicine Laboratory. Trained as a biologist at the University of Virginia, he earned his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical & Pharmacological Sciences at West Virginia University and completed a post‑doctoral fellowship in molecular pharmacology and cancer nanomedicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering, where he pioneered kidney‑targeted drug delivery and implantable optical nanosensors.Ìý
Dr. Williams’s research now centers on polymeric mesoscale nanoparticles for kidney‑directed gene and drug delivery and near‑infrared optical nanosensors for real‑time cytokine and drug monitoring, tackling chronic kidney disease and related inflammatory disorders. Since launching his independent program in 2019, his research program has been supported by National Institute of Health U54 and R35 grants. Complementing his academic impact, Dr. Williams is founder and director of Zipcode Therapeutics, a pre‑clinical company translating his kidney‑targeted genomic‑medicine platform toward the clinic.Ìý
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Williams to the Stony Brook Community.
