The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Smadar Kort, M.D., FACC, FASE, FAHA, Division of Cardiology, has been elected as a member of the American College of Cardiology Governance Committee for a 3-year term.

Below are the important charges of this committee –
- Supports the ACC/ACCF Board of Trustees by promoting best practices in governance and encouraging high performance across the College.
- Ensures alignment with the Board-approved Governance Principles and Authority Matrix, adapting policies as the College’s needs evolve.
- Maintains strong communication with the Board to regularly assess and refine governance practices, including Board structure, effectiveness, and development.
- Recommends the composition of the Nominating Committee and collaborates on onboarding processes for new leaders.
- Conducts exit interviews for select leaders, oversees the Ethics and Compliance Committee, and evaluates committee charters to foster collaboration and avoid duplication.
- Maintains a competency framework for College leaders and sets annual objectives and a work plan to guide its efforts.
