The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Smadar Kort, M.D., FACC, FASE, FAHA, Division of Cardiology, has been elected as a member of the American College of Cardiology Governance Committee for a 3-year term.

As the preeminent source of professional medical education for the entire cardiovascular care team since 1949, ACC credentials cardiovascular professionals in over 140 countries who meet stringent qualifications and leads in the formation of health policy, standards and guidelines.” -
Below are the important charges of this committee –
- Supports the ACC/ACCF Board of Trustees by promoting best practices in governance and encouraging high performance across the College.
- Ensures alignment with the Board-approved Governance Principles and Authority Matrix, adapting policies as the College’s needs evolve.
- Maintains strong communication with the Board to regularly assess and refine governance practices, including Board structure, effectiveness, and development.
- Recommends the composition of the Nominating Committee and collaborates on onboarding processes for new leaders.
- Conducts exit interviews for select leaders, oversees the Ethics and Compliance Committee, and evaluates committee charters to foster collaboration and avoid duplication.
- Maintains a competency framework for College leaders and sets annual objectives and a work plan to guide its efforts.
